CORAL GARDENERS THAILAND
Coral Gardeners began with a group of local island kids in Mo'orea, French Polynesia, witnessing the rapid decline of their reef. This ignited the idea of Coral Gardners and their movement which focuses on active coral reef restoration, combining science, innovation, and community involvement. Their ambitious goal is to scale up coral restoration efforts, aiming to restore coral reefs worldwide. By scientifically demonstrating the effectiveness of their methods, they seek to enhance coral reef resilience and biodiversity. In 2023, they made significant progress towards their goal of planting one million corals globally, opening their first international branch in Fiji. Now, a year later, they are on the brink of opening their second international branch in Thailand. I had the privilege of joining a group of CG ambassadors as some of the first visitors to the new Thailand branch. We had the opportunity to visit two of their nursery sites and engage in hands-on microfragmenting activities. Here are some images from our experience.
